Derek DiGuglielmo was born and raised in Dobbs Ferry, NY. He is an entrepreneur, homebrewer, philanthropist, reader and traveler. As a former Division I athlete, he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University. He has explored apiaries, breweries, distilleries, farms, gardens, kitchens and vineyards all over the world.

Throughout his time in Washington, D.C., he was immersed in the community while researching sustainable agriculture and pursuing innovative solutions to create and maintain positive social change. Through a community based learning program, he had the opportunity to work at a public charter school in an impoverished neighborhood of Washington, D.C. where he was able to make a positive impact by combating hunger and creating opportunity. Having built schoolyard gardens and volunteered at local food banks, he witnessed the hardships faced by children growing up without food.

After graduation, Derek relocated to New York. He subsequently founded an organization, Eat Local NY, with the mission of supplying the proper education and resources to children on food and nutriment while providing a platform for small businesses to showcase their products. Eat Local NY is an online marketplace that offers products exclusively made in New York. With every product that you purchase, Eat Local NY will help to educate and feed a child in need through unique partnerships created between different non-profit organizations. Derek continues to grow and learn while searching for innovative ways to strengthen and support local food systems. He is passionate about inspiring children to help make tomorrow better, encouraging them to find creative ways to make a difference.
