COFFEE LABS ROASTERS

A retired chef and a warm hearted counselor. Together they share a vision of green business, sustainability, ethics and passion. Mike and Alicia seek out the best and most sustainable coffees this world has to offer.

A retired chef of 15 years, Mike Love is originally from Southern Florida were he schooled himself as executive sous-chef at both Maxwell’s Chophouse and New York Prime. He worked for Unique Restaurant Concepts for three years, where he concentrated on opening new restaurants. He has since relocated to Westchester County and has worked as sous-chef at Angelo and Maxies mid-town, Chef de Cuisine at Harry’s of Hartsdale Steakhouse and Oyster Bar, and Executive Chef at Umami Café. Mike Love is co-owner of Coffee Labs Roasters in Tarrytown, which opened in May 2003. Coffee Labs deals with Direct trade coffees, Rainforest Alliance Certified coffees, COE coffees. Mike currently runs the Roasterie for retail and wholesale production at Coffee Labs Roasters.

Coffee Labs Roasters are active members of the SCAA, Roasters Guild of America, and founder of the North East Roasters Group Cup of Excellence Judge for several years Rainforest Cupping for Quality Judge Judge for national Russian barista competition Actively sponsor, participate, Northeast Regional Roasters Group Also has been teaching coffee education classes at Westchester Community College NY Mike Love is an Owner, Roaster and Barista. Currently Mike Love is 18-time Ultimate Barista Challenge winner. 2007 Roastmaster Challenge Winning team member at the annual Roasters Guild Retreat. Born and raised in Larchmont N.Y., Alicia worked for ten years in the resturant industry. She also earned a Masters in guidance and counseling. During this period, she volunteered for organizations such as Global Volunteers, Visions Service Adventures, and Leukemia Society, which sent her to Ireland, Costa Rica, Alaska and North Carolina. While building a community center in Costa Rica, she had the chance to pick coffee and learn about the process, from plant to the cup. Her interest in other cultures and food, and her strong desire to give back to the community, have lead her to the creation of Coffee Labs Roasters. Along with her partner, Mike Love she founded Westchester Taste of Relief, one of Westchester’s largest fundraisers. A quarter of a million dollars was raised in a single evening for 9/11, and was donated to the World Trade Relief Fund. Participation included thirty-one restaurants from NYC, Westchester, and Rockland County, and made it possible for Westchester residents to actively aid victims’ families.

Alicia with her co-owner, Mike Love opened Coffee Labs Roasters in Tarrytown, in May 2003. Alicia’s focus is greening the café. She is is working with the green restaurant association to improve Coffee Labs High rating of 3 stars.

  • We use Green-ware products which are 100%post-consumer paper products, to-go carrying trays, bake-good containers
  • All our old burlap and gunny sacks are given to:
  • Local farms for use, Smeatress, and home gardners
  • We work with Stone Barns compost program, all our used coffee grinds go there for use on the farms
  • No plastic utensils- All Metal
  • Reusable Plates- no paper
  • 75% of all cleaning products are green
