ELEANOR'S BEST

Eleanor’s Best is a Hudson Valley company, located right across the Hudson River from West Point. We make jams and marmalade the way our grandmothers and great grandmothers made it – slow stirred in small batches. It’s the intense real deal of goodness.

We started this adventure to share the awesome and intense flavors that we grew up with. Women with aprons and buns, and bobs, and pageboys taught us to respect real fruits and vegetables. They taught us to eat real food at the peak of the season, and how to put up the best of the season to nourish ourselves and our families throughout the year. We share the bounty of those lessons with you, for you to share with your families.

Eleanor’s Best believes in products being locally made and sourced, when possible. We deliberately buy fruit and vegetables from family owned farms, fields, and orchards, including our own. We use local and domestic ginger in our ginger jam. We also make and use some of our own pectin, using NY state apples. We know the farm, and often the slope of the hill, that our fruit and vegetables come from. We know that real food tastes better and we figure that you know it too. You’ll use less of our product and taste more. One third of a teaspoon is enough jam to flavor an entire half of an oversized bagel.

All of our products are naturally vegan and gluten free.

We only use real ingredients, and there aren’t many of them. Thirteen of our fourteen flavors have four or less. Our Strawberry Rhubarb Jam has five ingredients, simply because it includes two real fruits, instead of one. You can also easily pronounce and understand each of our ingredients.

Eleanor’s Best also curates our packaging. We use jars from an historic US glass company. Our lids are from a historic US canning company. Our boxes are fully compostable. All of our packaging can be recycled and reused. We stand over steaming pots of jam all the time. We don’t out source. We don’t co-pack, which is a fancy word for the commercialization of jam. We hand cut our marmalade. We hand stir our products. We produce everything in small batches to control quality. That’s simply how we roll. We do not like fake food, nor do we make fake food. We do not use additives, dyes nor fillers. We want to share the love we feel when we make good, real food. A little jam goes a long way, especially when it’s packed with goodness and flavor. It’s yummier that way. Everyone should feel this.

Who is Eleanor?

We get this question quite a bit. There are 150 years of Eleanor's in our family. Company founder Jennifer Mercurio’s Great Grandmother, Grandmother, Aunt and Godmother all shared the name Eleanor – as now does her daughter. We are proud of our heritage, and the recipes handed down through our family. Many of our products are based on some of their best recipes. Thus, Eleanor’s Best.

As part of the Philipstown community, Eleanor’s Best and Mercurio Farms support organizations that fight childhood hunger, support family farms, and promote the use of real and nourishing food.
