The fog rose
like firesmoke
out of dawn and
the last few embers of Winter.

And as the sunrise
and April took the trees
we laid beneath branches of gold,
dark blue
and violet light

Holding on
to what was left of each other
until all that could be held
was gone

And we became
single breath,
rising up
out of the Earth.
